I'm stealing the coolest meme ever from [livejournal.com profile] moominmolly's post:

I'm fantasizing today. Let's say you had NO IDEA what I do for work (which is probably true of some of you), and all you knew was that I wanted a change of career.

What real, achievable thing in the world should I be doing instead? Something that plays to my strengths and allows me to make something/somewhere more awesome just by showing up and being ME at it.

It is done

I have completed my last final exam as a NESA student. I did well, as I have done throughout my career there. Now I will rest - tonight I fly to my parent's place, to spend the week until graduation doing some navel-gazing and a lot of nothing.

Then, as one of my Japanese Style teachers who passed me in the hall today said, the real work will begin. It is going to be awesome.

Since I'm going to be having board exams, finals, and periods of being out of state, Rockin' Wednesday is going on break until the second week of August (8/11). Stay turned, there will be some sort of party the Friday following our glorious return to rockin', to celebrate my achieving journeyman status :).

I have taken my first board exam. It went about like I expected, although being entirely on a computer it was really fast (100 questions in about an hour, plus time to review). I have literally no idea if I passed or not, and I probably won't know until after my other two board exams. Tonight I will do a whole lot of nothing.

I need someone to notarize the form that asks that I be allowed to take my board exams (talk about yak shaving!). Is there anyone who either does this service or can recommend someone who does this service, preferably in my area (North Cambridge)? Also, about how much does this service generally cost?

It is entirely possible that deciding to factory-restore my netbook when I have some pretty hefty homework due the next day was not the wisest choice I could have made. OTOH, it takes several hours to reinstall World of Warcraft so that was one less possible distraction. I am certainly making good headway on it - it's taken me over an hour to write this post because my homework is so darn fascinating ;P.

Speaking of which, let me ask you a question: If you were to go into an acupuncturist's office, what would you expect to see there? (I'm curious what the answer is even if you've never been to an acupuncturist)

Actually, as long as you're here, let me ask you another question: When would you go to see a healer, and when would you go to see a doctor?

I grabbed as much slack as I could last weekend because this weekend is another marathon session of nutrition classes followed by an exam (Divergent Channels this time). An exam that includes doing okyu, which means I'll be practicing okyu every chance I get this week (I'm OK at it, but I could definitely be better) and seeing if I can convince my companion to let me practice a whole treatment on him at least once.

What do you do when you know you've got a really busy time coming up (as vs. randomly getting slammed)? Do you just push through and recoup afterward? Plan in a few moments here and there to recharge? Store up energy/slack ahead of time to help you get through?

Note to self: wear glasses to the next JAS class and determine if taking them off for diagnosis (based on palpation of the pulse and the abdomen) is helpful for figuring it out.

I'm bored

My companion is off LARPing, but I had to work. I was going to go on a tour of the Chinese medicinals section of the Arnold Arboretum today but that was canceled due to potential flooding. I'm making study cards an exam on Tuesday while watching stand-up comedy. When I'm done I need to decide if I want to work on the intake due on Monday or work on the homework due on Wednesday (the later is also studying for an exam on the same day so it might take higher priority). My life is a never-ending thrill-ride, I tell you what.

A Good Day

The day began hanging out with friends and finishing flash cards for the Point Location final. After that my companion helped me swap for the summer tires and change the oil in Nekokaburi (mostly by keeping me company, but the extra set of hands was certainly nice for getting the wheels on hubs and the tires out of the house) - the summer tires were only a few PSI down, which is heartening. This was followed by chilling out in front of Lewis Black stand-up specials while my companion recovered from partying hard with a nap on my lap, then pleasant passing of time (ahem) with my companion (not in front of the TV ;P). While he continued to nap I went to work on signs & symptoms lists for TCM Theory, from which I am briefly taking a break to write this post. I passed up the chance to hang out further with friends, but with finals coming up it was the right choice and I don't feel too bad about it.

I wish more days could be like this - a good mix of studying, relaxing, being productive/active, and being social. Now that I have a better idea what such a mix would look like I'll see if I can make that come to be :).
