Cell Phone Pondering II

While most people talked about their provider, almost no one talked about actual phones. I suspect this is because what I want out of a phone is different than what most people want out of a phone - I want a phone I can drop repeatedly, leave out in the rain, and accidentally throw in a snowbank without it being worse for the wear, preferably with several day's worth of battery life (including daily 2-minute's worth of use and weekly half-hour+'s worth of use), and that's about it. I neither need nor want ringtones or games or a camera.

Nextel clearly wins in this category with their 810F (mil spec) phones such as the Motorola i560, and they have a plan that's $10-15/month cheaper than my current one. However, their coverage is apparently less than stellar around here (in Consumer Reports' 2006 survey they scored the lowest of the major providers for phone service in the Boston area, at 55/100) and no one mentioned them at all in my last post. Oh, from my last post T-mobile, Verizon, and Cingular all got fairly similar numbers of thumbs up, but I'm not going with Cingular due to AT&T's new "pwnz your records!" policy, which allows it to not only give your phone records and contact info to the government, but also sell it to whomever they damn well please. Also, Verizon and T-mobile were first and second respectively in the aforementioned survey.

So I find myself slightly at a loss right now. If you've got a phone that's durable as hell or know of such a phone that's either Verizon or T-Mobile, please let me know. Also, if you have any opinion on Nextel, let me know that as well.
