Tattoo Notion

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] dragonvpm online when a tat idea hit me: silvery-rainbow dragon scales showing through "torn" skin. No idea how it would be done, or even where it would be on my body (upper arm would work pretty well, as would thigh, but I've a tat idea floating around the back of my head for my thigh already, just waiting for completion at some point). Can't even guesstimate how difficult it would be to do, or how long it'd take. That would depend on how large I'd want - probably not terribly big, large enough for the scales to be decently visible (and enough room to include the torn skin effect). So, anyone know of a good tat artist in the area (by "area" I mean eastern-central MA and southern NH) who could pull off that sort of effect?

That. Is a way cool design. I wish there were something that obvious for me... I need to point a dragonkin friend of mine towards this post, I'm sure she'll be amused.

Anyway, places that come to mind:
Shoulder
Buttocks
Calves
Hip, maybe trailing around and pointing towards your belly button...

you could do some really interesting things with placement. And I bet this will look hella sexy.

Your comment gave me an extention to the notion: the torn flesh will look as if they were made by claw marks. Which also extends the symbolism in a massively appropriate way. As to where. . . side, shoulder, or belly makes the most sense, I think. I like the idea of across from the hip towards the belly, but I also like the idea of down the belly and down the shoulder blade. Must think more on this. . .
