Well, that's an odd problem

My parents (being more observant than I) have noticed that they failed to give me a birthday present this year. So they've got a budget of approximately $100 with which to get me something(s) while I'm down here. I have very little idea what to ask for - go on a book buying spree? Hunt down something electronic? Ask for it as cash?

Got any advice on what I should ask for? Alternatively, what would you do in my position?

Gift certificate to Amazon or BestBuy? Then you can choose at your leisure.

+1 Amazon. Did you know you can get motorcycle tires through amazon? :-D

+2

gift certificate you can spend when something jumps out at you is a great option in my world. If I get cash and don't buy myself a gift right away, it just gets spent over time as pocket cash which kind of defeats the gift aspect of it.

"Alternatively, what would you do in my position?"

Hmmm...personally, I would go on shopping sprees at goodwills and used bookstores, seeing as how at both types of places, $100 would bring home a massive haul of stuff that was useful, provided I got used-shopping-lucky.

I'd probably take it as cash and earmark it for books from the dealer's room at Boskone.

Cash. then spend at your whim ;)

I would probably go on a shopping trip with my parents, and talk about things that I did or didn't want with them. Probably to a bookstore or something like that with a large variety of options, and where they would also enjoy browsing.

The $100 is just money.

I like that idea a lot, but my dad can't stand the shopping process even insofar as what you suggest. We've been spending a lot of time together while I'm down here anyway, so I'll end up going with my mom instead.

Chair massages or something similarly relaxing, especially if it buys you some quiet time. Or maybe that was just an issue with my family sometimes.

That totally makes sense, but I ended up opting for the Wii Fit since that's what they were going to get me for Christmas but couldn't find it, and since it's just one thing we're all going to go to the store to get it (including my brother, who we're going up to Philly to see tomorrow anyway).

Sounds like fun - enjoy!

I would vote anything motorcycle related, but I may not be the best person to ask a question like that.

An iTunes (or such) gift card might be nice too, if you are in to such things.

Put it towards a preorder of Rock Band:The Beatles?

[identity profile] benndragon.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They were actually thinking of getting me that, but I've already pre-ordered it ;P. (BTW, by not needing to get plastic replicas of The Beatles' instruments, I only paid $60 for the game itself and $10 each for two more microphones, so they totally could've paid for the whole thing ;)

I'm thinking back to when you told me your book stash was woefully inadequate. Maybe ask for the cash, and hit the used book store.

Wii points?

[identity profile] wsmith.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of rock band songs.

Oh guys don't worry about what to get me, money is fine. :P
