Is there a notary in the house?

I need someone to notarize the form that asks that I be allowed to take my board exams (talk about yak shaving!). Is there anyone who either does this service or can recommend someone who does this service, preferably in my area (North Cambridge)? Also, about how much does this service generally cost?

Sadly, my paperwork isn't through yet, and I can't help you. But it's in process!

[livejournal.com profile] hakamadare might be able to help, but he traditionally only notarizes at work. Many lawyers are also notaries.

Most notaries work for free. They're allowed to charge you a small amount of money depending on the exact work they perform, but less than two dollars regardless.

Most notaries do it for free; the fees they are allowed to charge are puny. Virtually every lawyer's office has one.

if you know [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal, he's a notary.

Mailboxes Etc. often has one. A coworker had specifically recommended one sort of near here (here being near NESA) but it's over in Newton, the other direction.

You could call the one in Belmont at (617) 484-9300‎ and see if they have one on staff and what it costs. It's sort of vaguely on the way-ish between you and NESA. The only one I'm seeing in Cambridge is somewhere in the Mass-Ave-east-of-Harvard area.

UPS and FedEx shops often have them too but it's a good idea to call first and find out what hours they are there.

Veronica here. Usually there is a notary at whatever bank you go to and it is usually free

Walk into any bank and ask.

Also, most educational institutions have one about - have you tried asking at NESA yet? I'm sure it's not the first time someone's needed to fill out this form. (In fact, [livejournal.com profile] mswae just had to do the exact same thing to verify her identity for her Step 3 licensing exam.)

My school might or might not have a notary public right now; there's been a lot of turnover recently (and let me tell you how exciting that made our last round of internships - I didn't get any of my top choices yet my #1 choice ended up begging for interns but I had another clinic scheduled at that time so I couldn't do it - grrrr).

Pretty much every bank will have a notary as well. And check the legal department at your school. Every school has a lawyer somewhere for various purposes, and they can notarize.
