I've not been this upset by something since. . . since the world trade center went down. It's just so. . . wrong. Not war in general, I honestly feel that there are times and places when war is the answer. But this is not one of them. A madman is using my money and my name to kill gods only know how many people out of fear and greed. They, no, *we* have no right to be doing this. I am acutely aware that I am a part of this war, that I am in part responsible for the people we will murder (because innocent civilians will be killed). I will do everything within my power to wage peace in the face of war, to continue with my work to cure breast cancer, to join with those who are spreading the message of alternatives to needless death and destruction.

Someone who is currently in Dharamsala, India posted the following poem by the Dali Lama (written quite some time ago, but directed towards Americans), and she is right that it is a message we, especially those of us who attempt to wage peace, should hear:

Never Give Up

Never give up
No matter what is going on
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent on developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Develop the heart

Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart and in the world
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is happening
No matter what is going on around you

Never give up

Tenzin Gyatso, XIV Dalai Lama

Thought my tears may blind me, I will not give up.
