You get to feel old when. . .

(BTW, that comic in general is funnier than it has any right to be. I'm just sayin'. Also, I blame [livejournal.com profile] londo)

Thank you xkcd for talking about an idea which I was willing to suspend disbelief for in order to have a laugh but have heard people actually spout as if it reflected reality. You see, in order to believe that premise you have to sincerely believe that smart people never ever do stupid things when it comes to sex. If you have such a belief, you clearly don't know any smart people (at least, you don't know them well enough ;P).

I was posting on [livejournal.com profile] davis_square so I could get high
An undercover cop replied to "help me get high"
Now I'm the laughingstock of LJ and I know why, yea yea
Because I'm confined, because I'm confined, because I'm confined
La-di-dat-dat-dat-dat

(apologies to Afroman)

The only thing more awesome than the original WW2 as an online RTS is this:

In response to something at the church of Google, I present to you:

[Poll #1348269]

(This is way more fun than analyzing the trend of using female pronouns for God as an aspect of satire)

Of all the metaphors I've heard this week, Stephen Colbert's market-orgy-STD was by far the best, both in terms of describing what happened and horrible pun factor. I will post it when it pops up on the internet (probably in less than an hour, but I'm going to bed shortly).

I find these Lewis Black bits particularly amusing because I have frequently thought things along these lines myself (especially "it's my book, stop trying to tell me how to read it"): start at the 6 minute mark and it continues here

A conversation about how to kill an octopus (in the event that it has decided to wrap itself around your head and therefore more conventional means of inducing death such as a spear are not available) lead to the plural of octopus and then to the question of the term for a group of octopodes. I never managed to find the answer to that question, but we did run across some other interesting ones:
a smack of jellyfish, a business of ferrets, an intrigue of kittens (I call band name!), a carload of monkeys, a plague of locusts (geez, one time and that's what you're called forever), a fever of stingrays (apparently they need more cowbell), a mutation of thrush, a stare of owls. . . they're all here.

While this makes a lot more sense if you've seen Idiocracy (and if you haven't, you should, it's really damn funny), it's entertaining even if you have not. (possibly NSFW audio)

As a Jew who went to a Solomon Schecter and had a Christmas tree every year, I found this extremely hilarious: Hilchos Xmas, The Laws of Christmas
