brynndragon: (yin yang with dragon)
In about a month I am going to be playing in a NERO event as a Chinese-type character. The easiest way to costume is to make myself some Hanfu. I should be able to pull it off if I can get my hands on a functional sewing machine, but I do not have sufficient sewing knowledge to be able to figure out how to make it from those images. Does anyone know where I can get Hanfu patterns, or can suggest any simple sewing shortcuts for figuring out how to do it (e.g. "take some measurement and double it for the sleeves")? I'm planning on making some simple pants and a short t-tunic to wear under the Hanfu as well, so I'd appreciate if anyone could tell me where to get those patterns. Thanks for your help!

Through sheer force of will, I managed to make Google cough up something that helped the pieces fall into place: scroll down near the bottom. I think I have enough random cloth lying around to play with it and see if I can make something sufficiently like what I want. For one thing I want one-piece robes rather than a bodice-skirt set, as it's far more unisex (what can I say, I'm a unisex kinda gal). I'm trying to decide if I want to go for two layers of it (which is more formal) or if I want to have a tunic cut similarly to the robe (just shorter and likely with short sleeves) and pants (which would be traditional if I was a guy). I'm guessing I'd be happiest running around the woods in pants. The pants will be either dull brown or black (leaning towards dull brown) and I think I want to make another hanfu in the same color with more narrow sleeves and no fancy edging that I can wear over leather/padded armor and ninja in the night (unless I get lazy and buy a plain black Tai Chi uniform). See, this is what happens when I want to play a healer and a ninja, I just play a healer-ninja and call it good ;P. My next concerns are shoes, hairstyle, and a ninja hood (I think I can do that with a properly-sized tube of cloth - again, something to play with).

Now I just need to get my hands on a functional sewing machine. Hey [livejournal.com profile] industrialsteve, you got that motor for Skaven's machine running yet? ;P
