I've been watching a Gay Rights meme running around for a while. The idea is nice, but the chain-letteresque "if you don't post this you are teh homophobe!!!111eleventy-one!" part of it squicked me to the point where I opted not to join in. If you haven't figured by now out that I am in favor of queer rights, you probably don't know me well enough to have *any* idea how I feel about, well, much of anything (excepting motorcycles, since I'm sure people I've never met in neighboring states know my feelings about those ;). Also, posting a meme in my LJ does dick regarding getting people honest-to-$deity rights, and I'd hate to mistakenly think I did something to actually further that cause when I hadn't. Did I mention how much I hate emotional coercion and that there's no faster way to make me do the exact opposite of whatever you're trying to get me to do? The only people who get to make me feel guilty are me and my Jewish grandmother, thank you very much.

That said, I have been pointed to an essay that's far more thoughtful on the subject of rights in general and gay rights in specific, and I would like to share it: Gay Rights (the long version)
