I couldn't call them last night because I got out of work extraordinarily late. But I think I've kinda tracked down the problem, thanks to (of all things) Windows. I was able to actually log in, but pressing keys on the left side of the machine caused the screen to blank. Pressing down on the right-side palmrest caused the screen to come back, and Windows wanted to file an error report. Windows then told me the "problem" was the graphics card driver (I don't buy that something with a physical cause-and-effect is a software issue). Which I'm interpreting to mean that the graphics card and the motherboard are losing communication anytime the left side of the machine is pressed or out-of-line with the right side. But it also exhibited another strange symptom: after coming back from that error, it no longer accepted keyboard inputs. Which makes me suspect the motherboard itself is fux0red. At this point it's certainly a warranty issue, so I'm gonna give them a call.
