I had gotten used to the sheer degree of awesome that this game will be. I had girded myself in anticipation of songs by the likes of Led Zep Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brother's Band, braced myself to be blown away by the profound coolness of cooperative mode. But now, the day before it is to be released on an unsuspecting public too concerned with piddly matters like who will run the country[1], I find out via [livejournal.com profile] solipsistnation that the unlockable tracks will include both Strongbad's Trogdor and Dethklok's[2] Thunderhorse. I am now afraid that I will be entirely overwhelmed by the brilliance this game will offer, but I will go forth in this brave new world that has such incredible amounts of awesome in it.

(dances) It comes out tomorrow...

Although, I preordered it through redoctane to get the super-sweet 2 guitar and gig bag set and junk, so I probably won't get it until later this week. Whatever. It'll be ok.

Right, somehow I got Lynyrd Skynyrd mixed up with Led Zep. Which is really impressive ;P.

Ok, amazingly enough, I've never even heard of this game, except from you. Please explain? :)

It's basically a rhythm game, like Frequency and Amplitude, with a specialized controller. You strum with the white lever in the middle of the body of the guitar-controller, and you have to press one or two of the colored buttons on the neck to get the proper chord (the neck-button aspect is most familiar to rhythm game players). It also detects when you've turned the guitar vertical (that's how you activate the special) and you can do things like hammer on and off the colored buttons without strumming for greater speed (and at higher levels you need all the speed you can get :). If you can get to a Best Buy they'll probably have it set-up somewhere so you can try it out.

I'm talking about the second game in the series in this post, you can check out the first game as well.
