The AC in our hotel room in Ft Lauderdale doesn't so much cool the air as suck all of the moisture out of it. This woke me up at 5 AM due to being overheated and feeling dessicated. The heartburn from my rather late dinner of fantastic diner food isn't helping matters. So I'm sitting outside looking out at the pool. There are colored lights here and there shining on the palms the surround it, so the view is kinda neat. I'm half-debating going for a dip, but for now the humidity in the air is just enough to help me feel better. I think I'm going to head back in and try sleeping some more.

And yet, that was not the best light show that I saw during my flight. I spent half an hour with my face pressed to the window before there were any fireworks because the clouds beneath me were lighting up with their own display. When the cloud cover receded to only half the sky, the counterpoint between the tiny fiery blooms near the ground and the larger flashes in the clouds made it seem like our celebration of our nation's birth was being echoed by the thunder-gods of yore (who perhaps though we were celebrating them instead). I wish there was some way for me to have recorded what I saw, not only so I could share it with you but because I could only focus on so much at a time and I know there's tons that I missed. It was just incredible.
